It aims to highlight the suffering of moon bears without upsetting the children and the happy ending ensures it sends a positive message about the way forward. The book is aimed at 5-7 years old and has been used successfully with 6 year olds in a second language. There is also an excercise to build Jasper a new enclosure at the end of the book!
Miracle
AWEN have prepared a reading, writing and comprehension excercise about a moon bear that escaped from a bear farm in South Korea. We reccommend you show the class some slides and talk about whar bear bile farming is and then start the worksheet. Firstly the children read a passage describing the situation and then answer some multiple choice comprehension questions. The final exercise encourages the children to take positive action by writing to government and making their opinions clear on what they think should happen to miracle. They could also paint pictures of moon bears to go with the letters.
