Welcome to the Animal Welare Education Network

AWEN aim to provide a free online catalogue of  materials and lesson plans for teaching humane education to children of a primary school age.

The resources are free and open to everyone. There is no need to register – just look through the website and take what you like! If you can’t find what you are looking for then get contact us and we will endevour to provide you with what you need completely free of charge.

Our mission is to create a generation of environmentally and socially responsible citizens who act with compassion and take responsibility for the well-being of people, animals and the environment in which they live.

The Animal Welfare Education Network was inspired when our principal developer was teaching in South Korea. She wanted to teach humane education classes  but struggeld to find resources. She found that many were not free or not accessible to schools outside the UK. In addition the quality was exremely poor with only tentative links to animal welfare or conservation. For example an animal themed cross-word or puzzle does not really address the point.  Teachers don’t have a lot of time to make new worksheets or plan for lessons outside of the curriculum. If they are going to take time out of their busy schedules for humane education, then resources and lesson plans should be made easily accessible and ready to download.
